Exchange 1: Nitrate
Responsible: Prof. Einsiedl (TUM), PD Dr. Robert van Geldern (Uni Erlangen)

A first exchange between the projects StressRes, GW_4.0, WaRM and NitratLURCH with reference to the topic nitrate takes place. The focus is on monitoring, processes and modeling. One specific topic that will be discussed is nitrogen isotopy.

The projects will contribute their respective experience and knowledge in dealing with nitrate. Monitoring data will be evaluated to analyze current conditions and changes related to nitrate pollution. The discussion also focuses on the underlying processes leading to nitrate pollution and how these processes can be modeled to develop better predictions and solutions.

One specific aspect addressed in the exchange is nitrogen isotopy. This method makes it possible to more accurately determine the origin of nitrate content in water. By analyzing the isotopic composition of nitrogen, sources such as agricultural fertilization or natural processes can be identified.
